Enabling data and file transfer between systems

Some z/OSMF tasks can gather data from and transfer files to systems within your installation (internal systems) or to external systems such as IBM® Support or an independent software vendor (ISV).

Key settings

The settings z/OSMF uses in the data and file transfer process are specified in the following objects:
  • System definitions, which contain the settings required for z/OSMF to access the systems in your installation.
  • HTTP proxy definitions, which contain the settings for z/OSMF to use when establishing an HTTPS connection with a system.
  • FTP server definitions, which contain the settings required for z/OSMF to access the FTP or SFTP servers that are running on internal or external systems.
  • FTP profiles, which contain the FTP or SFTP settings for z/OSMF to use when transferring files between systems.

You can use the Systems task to create system and HTTP proxy definitions, and you can use the FTP Servers task to create FTP server definitions and FTP profiles. These tasks are listed under the z/OSMF Settings category in the navigation area.

Settings required by task

z/OSMF tasks can require all or a subset of these settings during the data and file transfer process. Table 1 lists the settings that are required for the z/OSMF tasks that support this capability.
