The systems that share the SMS configuration may be defined in
one of two ways:
- As an individual system (the name of the system is known to SMS)
- As part of a system group (only the name of the group is known
to SMS). There can be a maximum of 32 systems, system-group names,
or both sharing the SMS configuration.
Recommendation: Although a system group
may be defined to SMS, define all systems connected to a tape library
as individual systems. If the tape library is connected to a system
group, the installation loses the ability to vary the library online
or offline to the individual systems that comprise the group. A VARY
SMS,LIBRARY command directed to a system group causes the library
to be varied online or offline to all the individual systems in the
group. There is no way to direct a VARY SMS,LIBRARY command to an
individual system that is part of the system group.
