Reading about Using Softcopy and Tools

To learn more about the install program, about softcopy in general and the tools that help you use and manage softcopy, or about the specific publications on the softcopy collection in your CD-ROM or DVD drive, click Read about using softcopy and tools. Then choose either of these online documents:

• SCREADME.TXT for the install program
• Installing, Managing, and Using the Online Library (the book you are now reading). By default, you see the HTML format of this book, but you can choose to see it in any of these formats:
  • HTML: For viewing with a Web browser.
  • BookManager: For viewing and searching with the IBM Softcopy Reader. This format provides the best search function of all the formats. It can also be used to print selected sections of the book, but the PDF format is recommended for printing large sections or an entire book.
    Note:

    When you select the BookManager format, you might see a warning message prompting you to select whether to open the file or save it to disk. Select Open it. Also, to view BookManager files without being interrupted by this warning, uncheck the box Always ask before opening this type of file.
  • PDF: For viewing, searching, and printing with Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. From this format you can print high-quality output that looks very similar to printed books received from IBM.
  • Text: For viewing with a workstation file viewer, such as Notepad.

From this window, you can also choose to view the softcopy collection index for the collection currently in your CD-ROM or DVD drive. This index is available as an HTML file, and also in the additional formats provided for Installing, Managing, and Using the Online Library, if available. From the HTML format, you can search for keywords in the file and open the softcopy files for the libraries and publications listed, provided that the disc containing the files is in your CD-ROM or DVD drive.

In addition, you can see Web links (URLs) that are helpful for this IBM softcopy collection. Plus, you can go directly to the Send feedback option to provide comments or ask questions about the IBM softcopy collection itself or about the program for installing softcopy tools.
