Before implementing EE, carefully consider your business requirements,
especially the following questions:
- Identify your preferences; will you need dynamic or predefined
connections?
- Evaluate your priorities. Which of the following considerations
is most important in your environment?
- Less maintenance
- Less definition
- More control
- More security
- Do you want to use host names or IP addresses for IP configuration?
Do you maintain a DNS to resolve host names to IP addresses? The benefit
of maintaining your own DNS is that you can keep all IP addresses
in a central location. If the IP addressing scheme changes, you do
not have to update VTAM® definitions
because DNS resolves the host names to the correct IP addresses.
- Decide whether you want to use EE connection network and which
EE partner nodes will participate in the EE connection network.
- Determine whether network address translation (NAT) is being used
in your IP network. See Network address translation (NAT) considerations for
more information related to using host names.
