z/OSMF ISPF User Settings window

From the z/OSMF ISPF User Settings window you can set options that affect your ISPF session, and you can adjust the colors that you see in the ISPF panel. Other settings are available in the ISPF Settings dialog (option 0).

The User Settings window is displayed the first time you select the z/OSMF ISPF task. When displayed, specify the appropriate values and click OK to log on to ISPF. To display the User Settings window every time you log on to ISPF, select the Show settings dialog with every logon option. If you do not select this option, z/OSMF will attempt to log you on to ISPF using the settings you previously specified.

You can also display the User Settings window by clicking the Settings link, which is located in the upper right corner of the ISPF pane. In this case, the logon settings apply only the next time you log on to ISPF.

Setting the behavior of the Ctrl key

In 3270 z/OS® ISPF the Ctrl key is the key to enter information. By default, in z/OSMF ISPF, the Enter key performs this function. However, you can change the behavior of the Ctrl key by adjusting the "Enable Ctrl key as Enter key." option.

If you select this option, then the Ctrl key acts as the Enter key. The Enter key retains this function. In 3270 z/OS ISPF there is a difference between the left Ctrl key and the right Ctrl key. There is no difference in z/OSMF ISPF, both keys act as Enter keys.

This option takes effect immediately after you click OK or Apply on the panel. It is retained over sessions.

ISPF session settings

The ISPF session settings are the settings that ISPF applies to a session. The settings are read at the start of the session. If you change a setting during a session, then the changed setting does not come into force until your next ISPF session.

If you want this pane displayed at the start of every ISPF session, click the Show settings dialog with every logon. box. Then you can adjust settings immediately before you start your ISPF session.

Field Description
Logon procedure A LOGON procedure name, as provided by your system operator.

If you were provided with more than one LOGON procedure name, LOGON ensures that the procedure name entered is valid for the account number. The procedure name is required and must contain 1-8 alphanumeric or national characters (A-Z, 0-9, #, $, @). The first character must be an alphabetic (A-Z) character.

If you enter an invalid LOGON procedure name, z/OSMF ISPF returns an error message. Correct the logon procedure name in the settings panel, and click OK again to logon.

Region size The amount of virtual memory allocated to your TSO address space in which your TSO session is run. The largest possible region size is 2096128. The region size is required.
Account number A name or number provided by your system operator.

The account number is required and must not exceed 40 characters in length. The account number cannot contain semicolons or unbalanced parentheses.

User group The user group matches the RACF® group ID. If your user ID is defined to RACF (Resource Access Control Facility), you can enter a RACF group ID. Your RACF group ID is 1-8 characters in length. The first character is alphabetic or national (A-Z, #, $ or @). The remaining characters, if any, can also contain numerics (0-9).
Profile sharing A flag showing whether you want profile sharing in operation. The values of the flag are:
On
Profiles are shared.
Off
Profiles are not shared.

Set this flag to On if you plan to run multiple, concurrent z/OSMF ISPF sessions with a logon procedure that allocates the same ISPF profile data set for each session. Using profile sharing avoids enqueue lock outs and loss of profile updates when the same profile data set is used for concurrent ISPF sessions.

Profile sharing is only effective if enabled for each concurrent ISPF session. This includes running a 3270 z/OS ISPF session at the same time as a z/OSMF ISPF session. For a 3270 z/OS ISPF session, invoke ISPF with the SHRPROF option.

If you intend to run ISPF by using a 3270 z/OS ISPF session and also with a z/OSMF ISPF session using the same user ID, specify the value of "YES" for the keyword PROFILE_SHARING in the ISPF Configuration Table. Then SHRPROF becomes the default option for the ISPF or ISPSTART command.

Screen size The number of rows and columns on the z/OSMF ISPF logical screen. The number of rows must be 24-204, and the number of columns must be 80-160.

This screen size is the screen size that ISPF uses to format a panel display when a screen format of "Max" is specified on the ISPF Settings (option 0) panel. This screen size is also used when ISPF formats panel data base on data width and a screen format of "Data" is specified. When a screen format of "Std" is specified ISPF always formats the panel display for z/OSMF ISPF by using a screen size of 24 x 80.

Code page The code page you want to use in association with your browser. Select from the drop-down list. For Japanese users, if you select Japanese Extended (1027,1172), the PF key descriptions are displayed correctly.
Language The language you want to use within ISPF. Select from the drop-down list.

The color map

In the User Settings window, you can use the color map to map the current colors being used in z/OS ISPF with the color you want to use in the z/OSMF ISPF task. For example, you can specify that everything in z/OS ISPF that is displayed using a red font will be displayed in the z/OSMF ISPF task using a black font.

To change a color, in the z/OSMF ISPF color field, select the replacement color to use for the corresponding z/OS ISPF color. Then, click OK to save the color mapping and close the User Settings window.

If you are starting the z/OSMF ISPF task, the colors you specified will be configured when you are logged on to ISPF. Otherwise, you must refresh the screen to see the updated colors. To do so, perform an action that will refresh the screen, such as pressing Enter or pressing a function key.

The panel buttons

Table 1 lists and describes the buttons that are displayed in the User Settings window.

The Select if using screen reader option

A screen reader is a device that renders on-screen text as audible language. If you are using a screen reader to speak the text that is displayed on the panels in the z/OSMF ISPF task, select the Select if using screen reader option. Otherwise, do not select this option.

The Select if using screen reader option determines the operation of the arrow keys in the main area of an ISPF panel. It does not impact the behavior of the arrow keys or the Tab key in the menu bar and function key areas. When you select or deselect this option, the effect is immediate.

For more details about how to navigate through the different areas of an ISPF panel, see Table 2.
