Appendix D. SCRIPT Control Word Reference

IBM BookManager BUILD/MVS V1R3 Preparing Online Books
SC38-2036-00

The following topics explain the differences between the way SCRIPT control words are used in printing and the way they are used for online books.

Online books have no pages in the usual sense of the word. Instead, each topic, regardless of its length, is formatted as a single unit by SCRIPT so it can be displayed properly on any display device. For this reason, control words that format text relative to pages are ignored or are processed differently.

If you use the GML Starter Set, all unlisted control words are fully supported.

If you write your own macros, create your own tags, or use many control words in your source files, you should read these topics carefully, especially if you plan to build online books from the same source files that you format for printing. For a full explanation of control word usage and formatting, refer to IBM Document Composition Facility: SCRIPT/VS Language Reference, SH35-0070.

Note: If you create or modify tags, you may not be able to build a book successfully.

If you use BookMaster, most control words are not allowed. Refer to the BookMaster User's Guide for control word usage with BookMaster.
