Appendix C. GML Starter Set Tag Reference

IBM BookManager BUILD/MVS V1R3 Preparing Online Books
SC38-2036-00

Some GML Starter Set tags are processed differently for online books than for printed books. Most differences occur because online books do not have pages in the usual sense of the word. Instead, each topic, regardless of its length, is formatted as a single unit by SCRIPT so it can be displayed properly on any display device. For this reason, tags that format text relative to pages are ignored or processed differently.

In some cases, BookManager BUILD saves the information a tag provides and uses it for another purpose. For example, BookManager BUILD saves the information from tags such as:

  • :AUTHOR -- Author Name
  • :DATE -- Document Date
  • :TITLE -- Document Title

BookManager READ uses that information to create a book description, which provides data similar to that on a library catalog card.

If you use the STITLE (short title) attribute, BookManager BUILD saves the information for BookManager READ to display in a list of books.

The following topics explain formatting differences. Only the tags that format differently are discussed here. For a full explanation of using GML Starter Set tags, refer to IBM Document Composition Facility: Generalized Markup Language Starter Set Reference, SH20-9187.
