Creating a z/OS Asset

How to use z/OS Connect Designer to create a z/OS Asset.

Before you begin

Ensure that z/OS Connect Designer is running as described in Starting and stopping z/OS Connect Designer.

About this task

A z/OS Asset describes a specific resource on a z/OS application, like Db2® or CICS® and the methods that IBM® z/OS Connect must use to access that resource. A Db2 z/OS Asset describes a specific Db2 native REST service.

You can use z/OS Connect Designer to add a z/OS Asset to your project with one of the following methods:
  • Click A plus icon next to z/OS Assets in the navigation tree.
  • Expand Paths and click the operation that you want to add a z/OS Asset to. For example, employees{ID}/GET. In the Operation Viewer, click A plus icon in a circle icon to start the z/OS Asset wizard.
You can also add an existing z/OS Asset into an operation in the flow diagram. For more information, see Implementing a z/OS Asset.

Both methods display the z/OS Asset Wizard. Depending on the type of z/OS Asset you want to configure, follow the instructions of one of the following tasks:

To create a new z/OS Asset describing a CICS application, see Creating a CICS z/OS Asset.

To create a new z/OS Asset describing a Db2 REST Service, see Creating a Db2 z/OS Asset.

To create a new z/OS Asset describing an IMS application, see Creating an IMS transaction z/OS Asset.

Choose one of these methods to display the Operation flow diagram in the Operation Viewer as shown in Figure 1.

The following topics show you how to add a specific z/OS Asset resource for CICS, Db2, or IMS.
