Introduction to IBM database management tools for z/OS environments

IBM® InfoSphere® Data Replication for DB2® for z/OS® is IBM's integrated solution for replicating data to and from IBM DB2 for z/OS environments. InfoSphere Data Replication for DB2 for z/OS provides real-time data replication, high availability of data, and change data capture for information integration.

InfoSphere Data Replication for DB2 for z/OS supports Active-Active databases, database migration, application consolidation, dynamic warehousing, master data management, service-oriented architectures, business analytics, and extract, transform, load (ETL) or data quality processes.

The replication and publishing technologies that comprise InfoSphere Data Replication for DB2 for z/OS are Q Replication, SQL Replication, Data Event Publishing, and Change Data Capture.

  • Q Replication
    Q Replication is a high-volume, low-latency replication solution that uses WebSphere® MQ message queues to transmit transactions between source and target databases or subsystems.
  • SQL Replication
    SQL Replication captures changes to source tables and views and uses staging tables to store committed transactional data. The changes are then read from the staging tables and replicated to corresponding target tables.
  • Data Event Publishing
    Data Event Publishing captures changes to source tables and converts committed transactional data to messages in an Extensible Markup Language (XML) format or delimited format. Each message can contain an entire transaction or a row-level change.
  • Change Data Capture
    Change Data Capture (CDC) is a replication solution that captures database changes as they happen and delivers them to target databases, message queues, or an extract, transform, load (ETL) solution such as InfoSphere DataStage® based on table mappings that are configured in the Management Console graphical user interface.
