Configuring near-term history data collection for IBM® Z OMEGAMON AI for z/OS on OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface

Near-term History provides the capability to investigate problems that occurred in the recent past by using the OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface. Near-term History provides intuitive access to historical data collected by both agents and IBM Tivoli Monitoring.

About this task

You can configure near-term history data collections, their frequency, and various other parameters associated with the collections.

Procedure

  1. Click View and select History Configuration.
OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface displays the historical tables for the selected hub.
  2. Place your cursor before the attribute group name that you want to configure for near-term history data collection and press Enter. In this example, select SYSCPUUTIL for System CPU Utilization attribute group.
OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface displays the OMEGAMON History Configuration workspace. The view defaults to the General tab.
  3. Enter a name for this data collection in the Collection Name field. For example, OMDS:syscpuutil.
  4. To select the interval time for the collection, place your cursor before an interval time, type s, and press Enter. For example, select 30 Minutes.

    The selected interval changes color.

  5. To select the collection location, place your cursor before TEMA or TEMS, and click OK.

In many cases, the location is predetermined for some attributes. In such cases, the location of the collection is not configurable and you receive a message that changes cannot be made to those locations.

You receive the message that the collection was successfully updated.
  6. To set up your data collection to run either on specific Managed Systems or for a Managed System List, click the Distribution tab.
Note: Specifying a Managed System List usually indicates collection for one or more Managed Systems.
  7. To select one or more Managed Systems or Managed System Lists for your collection, place your cursor before the system or list name, type s, and press Enter.
The selected distribution's collection status changes from Excluded to Including to indicate that you are including them in the collection.
  8. To save your collection, place your cursor over OK and press Enter.
  9. Optional: To exit without saving your collection, place your cursor over CANCEL and press Enter. Alternatively, if you navigate away from the General or Distribution tabs, your changes are not saved.

Results

You are returned to the Historical tables configuration workspace. If you saved your data collection, it is listed under the System CPU Utilization attribute group and Collection name (in this example, OMDS:syscpuutil).
