Deploying the Discovery Agent for IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service

To discover the resource configuration and relationship data, you must deploy the IBM Z® Discovery Library Adapter (zDLA). To enable the Discovery Agent to collect data and send it to the Discovery Server, you must deploy the Discovery Agent on the z/OS system. This topic provides an overview of the deployment and configuration process.

When you deploy the zLDA and Discovery Agent, zDLA collects the resource configuration and relationship data and stores it in a set of IdML books within a dataset on z/OS. The Discovery Agent then sends the IdML books to the Discovery Server located on the remote system.

Note: From version IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service version 1.3.1.2 and later, the Discovery Server does not support direct loading of IdML Books from the file system.

The Discovery Agent also parses the JCL and associated files on the z/OS system. The Discovery Agent then sends the content to the Discovery Server located on the remote system.

Perform the following steps to complete the deployment and configure the Discovery Agent:

  1. Deploying and configuring the Discovery Agent─Enable the Discovery Agent to collect data and send it to the Discovery Server, you must first deploy the Discovery Agent on the z/OS system. This deployment and configuration process is a one-time procedure for each agent installation.
  2. Configuring communication between the Discovery Agent and the Discovery Data Service─Configures the communication parameters between the agent and server. This configuration is required when initiating a new connection or when the server communication parameter changes.
  3. Configure the Discovery Agent for supported tasks─Configures the agent to send data and run the commands. You must update these settings when changing the files sent to the server or modifying the command parameters.
