Running the Data Streamer

To start the Z Common Data Provider Data Streamer, you use the Data Streamer started task. When a policy is updated, you must stop and restart the Data Streamer to make the updated definitions take effect.

Before you begin

Create the Data Streamer started task, as described in Customizing the Data Streamer started task.

About this task

You use z/OS® console commands to control the operation of the Data Streamer and to view information about the current policy.

Troubleshooting tip: After the Data Streamer is started, it should not stop until you stop it. If it does stop without your stopping it explicitly, review the Data Streamer job log output for possible errors.

Procedure

To operate the Data Streamer, run the following console commands, where procname represents the name of the started task (such as HBODSPRO).
Action z/OS console command
Start the Data Streamer
START procname
Stop the Data Streamer
STOP procname
Refresh the Data Streamer
MODIFY procname,APPL=REFRESH,POLICY
Tip: After you run this command, the policy is reloaded, and the Data Streamer is restarted.
Refresh the topic list
MODIFY procname,APPL=REFRESH,TOPICLIST
Tip: If Enable Multiple Kafka Topics is set to Yes for OMEGAMON® data streams, this command will refresh the topic list in the Kafka server that the Data Streamer should read from. For more information, see Configuring the odp-topics-list.json file to collect OMEGAMON data from multiple Kafka topics. If Enable Multiple Kafka Topics is set to No, this command takes no action.
Reset subscribers
MODIFY procname,APPL=RESET,SUBSCRIBER
Tip: This command resets all the subscribers that send data to the backup server. After you run the command, the Data Streamer connects to and sends data to the primary server that is specified in the Host and Port fields for the subscriber in the Configuration Tool.
View information about the current policy
MODIFY procname,APPL=DISPLAY,POLICY
The following message is sample output from the command:
HBO6076I The current policy is
/etc/cdpConfig/myPolicy.policy.
