A Z Data Analytics Platform tenant workspace contains the artifacts that are needed to work with the operational data to which the tenant is granted access. The artifacts include visualizations, dashboards, saved searched, and reports.

Workspace access at login

When you log in to the Z Data Analytics Platform for the first time in a new browser session, a dialog is displayed. The dialog provides you with a list of the workspaces that your user ID is authorized to access. Select one of the available workspaces to continue.

After you select a workspace, the web UI is reloaded with the settings that are appropriate for that workspace.

On subsequent logins in the same browser session, you are taken back to the same workspace that you last selected during your previous login without further prompt. This feature also holds true if you switch user IDs, provided that the new user ID has access to the workspace that was selected by using the previous user ID.

Important:

If you log in to the Z Data Analytics Platform with a user ID that is not assigned to one of the four functional security roles and at least one of the tenant groups is defined in the identity management service, you effectively have no access permissions for the Z Data Analytics Platform web UI. A message with the subject Missing Role and a Logout button is displayed.

Click the Logout button to be returned to the login panel. Either ask your system administrator to add your user ID to one of the functional security roles and one of the tenant groups, or choose a different user ID to log in with.

Note that the web UI might reload several times before you see the Logout button while it validates your access permissions.

Switching workspaces after login

  1. Click the avatar icon in the upper-right corner of the Z Data Analytics Platform web UI.
  2. Click Switch workspaces. This action opens the same dialog that you were presented with during your first login.
  3. Select the desired workspace from the workspace list.

    If the workspace you are looking for is not in the list, you currently do not have access to it.

Note: You might need to log off and log back in to pick up any new authorizations that you are recently granted.

Workspace functionality

When you are in a workspace, you can observe the following behavior:
  • You see the artifacts only, such as dashboards or searches that were created and saved in this workspace.

    Artifacts are not shared between workspaces.

  • While you interact with data, such as in the Discover view, you see all the data that you are given access to, through any tenant that your user ID is a member of. Data access is additive and not limited by the workspace that you selected.
  • Throughout the Z Data Analytics Platform web UI, you can perform only the functions that are associated with the functional role that your user ID is assigned.
Important:

Each tenant workspace is created with two index patterns (zoa-* and cdp-*), with zoa-* set as the default index pattern.

If you choose to use only non-curated (raw) data streams in a tenant workspace, your tenant administrator must change the default index pattern for that workspace to cdp-* using the Management > Dashboards Management > Index patterns feature in the navigation bar.
