Deploying the Z Data Analytics Platform and the common services
You can install the Z Data Analytics Platform and the common services such as the Problem Insights server, authentication and gateway services as an OCI-compliant software container on a Linux® system or on z/OS® Container Extensions (zCX).
Before you begin
About this task
- Z Data Analytics Platform
The Z Data Analytics Platform provides the ability to visualize and search through large quantities of Z operational data and get insights into the operational data. This platform allows you to access the insights that IBM Z® Operational Log and Data Analytics provides directly on the mainframe (Linux on Z or zCX) or in a Linux on X environment if you prefer.
To use the Z Data Analytics Platform, you must:- Ensure that Z Common Data Provider is installed and configured.
- Typical configuration:
-
- Log Forwarder
You must install the Log Forwarder on every LPAR from which you want to stream operational log data to the Z Data Analytics Platform for analysis.
- System Data Engine
You must install the System Data Engine on every LPAR from which you want to stream SMF data to the Z Data Analytics Platform for analysis.
- Data Streamer
You must install the Data Streamer on every LPAR from which you want to stream operational data to the Z Data Analytics Platform for analysis.
- Configuration Tool
You must install the Configuration Tool on one LPAR only. You can use the Configuration Tool to create policies for Log Forwarder and Data Streamer to stream operational data to analytics platforms.
- Log Forwarder
- Alternative configuration:
- Data Collector
If you want to use the new Data Collector-based architecture, you can install the Data Collector on every LPAR from which you want to stream operational log or SMF data to the Z Data Analytics platform. Additionally, you also need a central System Data Engine instance and a central Data Streamer instance for processing the operational data before it is transferred to the Z Data Analytics platform. The Data Collector currently only supports SMF records, SYSLOG, and z/OS RMF Monitor III reports.
-
Ensure that the prerequisite software for the Z Data Analytics Platform is installed on the designated Linux server. One of the following software is required:
- Docker CE (Community Edition) engine, Docker CLI, and Docker Compose. See [Docker-based] Installing prerequisite software for details.
- Podman 4.x and needed backend networking for Podman. See [Podman-based] Installing and configuring prerequisite software for details.
- Install the Z Data Analytics Platform together with the common services. See Installing and configuring the software containers.
- Ensure that Z Common Data Provider is installed and configured.
- Common services
The common services include the Problem Insights server, the Keycloak authentication service, gateway service, Kafka broker, Zookeeper, datastore and other services. During the installation, you can select to install either the Z Data Analytics Platform, which will install all the common services together, or the common services only based on your need. See Installing and configuring the software containers.
