Setting up a working directory and an output directory for the Data Receiver

You must set up both a working directory and an output directory for the Z Common Data Provider Data Receiver.

About this task

The Data Receiver working directory contains files that are created and used during the operation of the Data Receiver, including the Data Receiver properties and security-related files. The Data Receiver output directory contains output files that the Data Receiver generates based on the data that it receives.

Guidelines for both directories
Use the following guidelines to help you decide which directories to use as the working directory and the output directory:
  • The directories must be readable, writable and executable.
  • There cannot be spaces in the path name of the directories.
  • To avoid possible conflicts, do not use the same directory as both the working directory and the output directory for the Data Receiver.

Procedure

Create a working and output directory on the platform where you plan to run the Data Receiver:
  1. Optional: Create a system environment variable CDPDR_HOME that specifies the location of the working directory.
  2. Create a system environment variable CDPDR_PATH that specifies the location of the output directory.
Note: The IBM Z® Operational Log and Data Analytics Splunk application uses the environment variable CDPDR_PATH to locate the CDP output directory. You must define this environment variable to point to the output directory and make the environment variable available to Splunk.
