Manually starting an exploration

IBM® Z Database Assistant can manually start or schedule an exploration for selected statements.

About this task

You can manually start or schedule explorations outside of the scheduled explorations.

Procedure

To manually schedule exploration for specified statements:

  1. Open the SQL tuning tab of the connection that contains the statements you want to explore.
  2. Schedule a singularly occurring exploration for statements or explore statements immediately.
  3. Selecting the checkbox next to the statements you want to explore.
  4. Click Explore.
    The Explore statements dialog opens. The Statement details section shows the details about the statements you selected for exploration.
  5. Select Validate access path to specify that the proposed new access path will be internally validated by IBM Z Database Assistant.
    The default setting is to validate the proposed new access path.
  6. Select Explore immediately to start exploration immediately. Unselect Explore immediately to schedule the singularly occurring exploration.
    The default setting is exploring immediately. If you schedule a singularly occurring exploration, specify the following values:
    Explore label
    An optional user-defined descriptor for a particular exploration.
    Kick-off date and time
    The time and date when the exploration will begin.
    Max end date and time
    The date and time at which an exploration will end if it has not finished already.
  7. Click Explore.

Results

After you click Explore, the status will change to Exploration requested or Exploration in progress.
