Running IMS commands

Use the IBM® Z Database Assistant command processor to run and work with IMS type 1 and type 2 commands.

About this task

If you find problems or just want to get more information about an IMSplex or database, you can use the Command processor to run commands. Using the IBM Z Database Assistant can be a more convenient interface to run commands than accessing a terminal or using TSO SPOC.

Procedure

To run IMS commands:

  1. From the side navigation panel, select the IMS system that you want to work with and click the Command processor tab.
  2. Enter a IMS command in the input field and click Run. The command is validated automatically.

The output of the command is displayed in the Command results section of the view.

Tip: Ask the Assistant about IMS commands and how to enter them. You can run commands to get information from connected systems, such as /DISPLAY or QUERY. You cannot run commands that create, update, or delete database objects.
    Usage notes:
    • The Command editor retains the history for the last 10 commands that were issued during a session. This history persists only during the current login session.
    • After you run your first command, the output from running subsequent commands is appended to the Command results section.
    • Use the Clear and run action to run the current command, clear the Command results section, and display the output from that command in the Command results section.
    • You can delete a single command by clicking the trash can icon for that command, or you can delete all commands by clicking Clear all recent commands.
    • You can copy the results by clicking the copy icon.
