Uncataloging data sets (YDELETE)

In the $DELETE$ job, IZBR invokes the YDELETE procedure to uncatalog data sets for each methodology. YDELETE simplifies the process of evaluating the IDCAMS output generated when critical data sets are uncataloged or deleted.

When $DELMODE=SMART is set in hlq.USERMAC(RESTJCLR), IDCAMS is re-invoked for data sets that could not be deleted because they were not found on the volume specified in the catalog (message IKJ56232I). All IDCAMS messages are evaluated and directed to one of the following output files to aid in resolving any issues.

GOOD
Listing of successful deletes.
NOTFOUND
Data sets that were not cataloged.
NOTONVOL
Data sets not uncataloged with the SCRATCH option because the physical file was not present on the online volume.
OTHER
Summary of files not processed for other reasons.

IBM Z® Backup Resiliency creates a second list of data sets to be processed with the NOSCRATCH option for any data set in the NOTONVOL list. These are data sets that had previously been attempted to be deleted with the SCRATCH option.
