Creating an audio file using text

You can create audio prompts for your application using synthesized voice. To do this, you can either type phrases or open text files and let the text-to-speech engine convert the text to voice.

To create an audio file from text:

  1. Navigate to File > New > Audio File.
  2. Select the desired voice project or folder, and type a name for the audio file.
  3. Optional: The Advanced button (available in some installed products) reveals or hides a section of the wizard used to create a linked file. Check the Link to file in the file system check box if you want the new file to reference a file in the file system. Use the field below the check box to enter a file path or the name of a path variable.
  4. Click Next to open the New Audio File dialog, and select your source.
  5. You can create spoken prompts for your application using the audio recorder.
    • Select Record from microphone and click Finish to open the Audio Recorder and create an audio file using the microphone.
    • Select Text to speech from text file to locate an existing text file.
Note: There is a character limit of 512 for the text file.
    • Click Browse to locate the file. When you click Finish, the phrase is processed through the text-to-speech engine, and you hear the file in a synthesized voice.
    • Select Text to speech from text field input to type a prompt in the text box. When you click Finish, the phrase is processed through the text-to-speech engine. The generated audio file is displayed in the Audio Recorder window. Click Play button to start playback of the audio file.
