Managing the visibility of virtual objects in Data Virtualization

You can determine whether Data Virtualization users can view virtual objects that they cannot access.

About this task

By default, Data Virtualization users can see column and table names only of virtual objects that they can access. For example, if a user is not allowed to perform a SELECT statement on a table, the table is not be listed when you perform the LIST TABLES operation.

However, you can give users a more comprehensive view of the content by making existing virtual objects visible from the Virtualized data page. Data access within those objects follows the Data Virtualization authorizations and data protection rules.

Procedure

To manage visibility of virtual objects, follow these steps.

  1. Click Service settings.
  2. Go to the Advanced options section.
    • Enable the Restrict visibility option to prevent users from seeing column and table names of virtual objects that they cannot access. This option is enabled by default.
    • Disable the Restrict visibility option to allow users to see column and table names of virtual objects that they cannot access. Additionally, when you clear the Restrict visibility setting, the Virtualized data page becomes All virtualized data.
