Manage and adjust your lineage graph to get comprehensive visibility and control of the data pipeline.

Required permission

You must have the following user permission:

  • Manage data lineage or Access data lineage

Managing your data lineage graph

You can manage and adjust your lineage graph to serve your use case. Use the canvas to explore the lineage you created.

Use the Canvas assets panel to:

  • Find an asset in the search bar.
  • Select what assets to view or hide.
  • Highlight an asset and all its children that are on the canvas. You can highlight multiple assets on the canvas at once.
  • Center the graph on a node you are interested in.
  • Show all children of assets at once.
  • View the Asset metadata panel.

Lineage graph settings

To view and change the settings of the lineage graph, click Display settings icon. There are separate settings for the canvas and for the assets that can be applied.

Show or hide the following on the canvas:

  • Legend

Show or hide the following on the assets:

  • Relative path
  • Business terms
  • Classifications
  • Data quality
  • SLA rules compliance
  • Lineage flags

In the Display name section, select a different type of display name for items. You can choose the current name, the original name, or the AI-generated name that is suggested by metadata enrichment as the display name for your lineage assets.

Downloading a graph

To download your currently displayed lineage graph, click Download icon. You can select to download your graph in PDF, PNG and CSV file format.

CSV and PDF download options

When you export lineage to a CSV or PDF file formats, you can choose between the following output options.

Graph visualization

This option is available for the PDF format. The content of the file is the visual representation of lineage, as displayed on the graph.

Nodes and edges

This option is available for the CSV format. Two separate CSV files are generated. One contains all nodes and the other contains all edges that are displayed on the lineage. You can choose this option if you want to view lineage in another graph database.

Assets connections

This option is available for the CSV and PDF format. The exported file lists all starting assets and connections to unique assets in the directions that are available on the lineage. You can choose this option, for example, when you want to view the origin of your data in another tool, such as Excel. When you set filters on the graph, the exported file clearly indicates the original source and target for your starting assets.

Starting assets must be visible on the graph for the connected assets to be exported. When starting assets are hidden on the lineage, they are not exported, and assets that are visible but are connected to these starting assets are not exported as well. It might happen, for example, when a starting asset is a column in a table, and the table is collapsed in lineage. Or when the starting asset is a parent asset, and you expand child assets, then the parent asset is hidden from view.

Lineage paths

This option is available for the CSV and PDF format. The exported file lists all unique paths that come from the starting assets in the directions that are available on the graph. You can choose this option, for example, when your graph is large and you want to display it in the external tool like Excel. You can also choose this option when you are interested in post-processing of lineage in an external tool.
