IBM watsonx.data intelligence service plans
The plan that you choose for watsonx.data intelligence affects the features and capabilities that you can use.
When you provision watsonx.data intelligence, you can choose between the Trial, Essentials, Standard, or Premium plans.
You can provision only one watsonx.data intelligence instance per IBM Cloud account.
Available plans
You can choose from these watsonx.data intelligence plans:
- Trial
-
Try watsonx.data intelligence features for 30 days for free before you buy the Essentials, Standard, or Premium plan. Trial plan services, including all data and assets, are deleted after 30 days.
- Essentials:
-
Pay for core capabilities to automatically discover, profile, enrich, analyze data lineage and quality, and share data products as you begin to establish a data-centric organization.
Limited access to IBM Knowledge Accelerators is included (sample terms and Cross Industry).
- Standard:
-
Pay for advanced capabilities in data governance, quality, lineage and data product hub. Full access to IBM Knowledge Accelerators that contain curated glossaries with industry-specific vocabularies is also included.
- Premium:
-
Pay for a comprehensive set of tools for advanced data discovery, cataloging, governance, quality, lineage, and data product hub, augmented by generative AI. Full access to IBM Knowledge Accelerators that contain curated glossaries with industry-specific vocabularies is also included.
For all plans, you must separately acquire additional services to enable these capabilities in regions where they are available:
- Unstructured data governance additionally requires IBM watsonx.ai Runtime as a Service, IBM watsonx.ai Studio as a Service, IBM watsonx.data integration as a Service, and IBM watsonx.data as a Service.
- Data quality definitions and rules, advanced profiling and key relationship analysis additionally require IBM DataStage as a Service or IBM watsonx.data integration.
For pricing information, see the watsonx.data intelligence page in the services catalog.
Metering
How resource consumption is tracked
For metering and billing purposes, resource consumption is measured with resource units (RUs). RU is an independent measure of a resource that is managed by, processed by, or related to the use of the cloud service.
What is measured for resource consumption?
The consumption of RUs is calculated based on the following resource types:
-
Record
Defined as one instance of the following object types: governance artifacts (categories, business terms, reference datasets, policies, governance rules, data classes, classifications) and assets (discovered data assets, BI reports, copybooks). The number of records is rounded up to the next 1,000 records when calculating Resource Units is required. -
Capacity Unit-Hour (CUH)
An hour of use of the selected cloud services capacity type that is multiplied by the specified number of required capacity units for such capacity type. -
Data Source Definition (DSD)
Uniquely identifies a specific system, database, or application within the environment that you want to scan for Data Lineage. If multiple scanners are used with one DSD, each DSD and scanner combination counts as one DSD. When multiple DSDs of the same technology type are created, only one DSD of that technology type is counted toward the total RU consumption. For clarity, a technology type refers to a specific kind of system, database, or application technology. For example, the technology PostgreSQL includes technology types such as PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, and IBM Cloud Databases for PostgreSQL. Similarly, the technology IBM Db2 includes technology types like IBM Db2 and IBM Db2 for z/OS. -
Table
Refers to an individual data table within your source system that Data Lineage scans. Views, synonyms, and tables that data lineage deduces are not counted towards this total. The number of tables is rounded up to the next 5,000 Tables when calculating RU is required. -
Data product subscription
Each access grant or transfer of a data product to a single user. A data product is a collection of one or more data assets to which access is offered as a unit. Data assets comprise multiple types of objects, including but not limited to data sets, models, reports, workbooks, and dashboards. Multiple data product subscriptions by the same user to the same data product count as distinct data product subscriptions. -
Page
A collection of content, converted to PDF if from a web page, contained on one side of a sheet of paper when printed, whether produced in physical or digital format, managed or processed by the Cloud Service.
For the purpose of the document text extraction feature where available in the Premium plan, the following file formats will be billed as follows:- PDF file – 1 page in the pdf is 1 Page
- Plain text – up to 3,000 characters is 1 Page
- Markdown – up to 3,000 characters is 1 Page
- Microsoft Word document – up to 3,000 characters is 1 Page
- Microsoft PowerPoint document – 1 slide is 1 Page
- In the case of file formats that do not have delineated pages, a Page will be considered as consisting of 3,000 characters. The number of Pages will be rounded up to the next 50,000 Pages when calculation of Resource Units is required.
In the Premium plan, 43 Resource Units are required per 50,000 Pages ingested and enriched per month, which includes 10 Capacity Unit-Hours per month.
Resources, whether measured with capacity unit hours (CUHs) or number of record, are consumed for running assets, not for working in tools.
Billing
You can view a summary of your monthly billing on IBM Cloud. From the home page, choose Manage > Account and billing. To view the usage for each service, click Usage. Depending on your plan, compute usage is measured in capacity unit hours (CUH) or resource units (RU). You consume CUH or RU when you run tools and jobs, or work with data lineage or data products.
Each instance is billed on a monthly basis. Partial month deployment or usage will be pro-rated. For more details about billing and usage, see Monitoring your account resource usage.
- Trial
- The Trial plan includes a set amount of compute usage. You cannot exceed these limits. You can buy a paid plan.
- Essentials:
- The Essentials plan includes a set amount of compute usage per month. If you need more compute usage, you can upgrade to a Standard or Premium plan.
- Standard:
- The Standard plan includes a set amount of compute usage per month. If you need more compute usage, you can upgrade to a Standard or Premium plan.
- Premium:
- The Premium plan includes a set amount of compute usage per month. You can purchase additional RU as a 12-month subscription for more compute usage.
