Prior to your Data Virtualization instance upgrade, grant the permissions necessary to
take advantage of data source definitions in your newly upgraded Data Virtualization
instance.
Before you begin
You must have the IAM Administrator role. For more information, see IBM
Cloud IAM roles.
About this task
To take advantage of data source definitions, grant the following permissions before your
instance is upgraded, otherwise the data source definitions for your Data Virtualization instance
will not be automatically created upon your instance upgrade.
If you want to use data source definitions after your Data Virtualization instance is upgraded,
then you need to manually create them. For more information, see Data protection with data source definitions.
Procedure

Log in to your IBM Cloud account as the IAM Administrator that hosts your Data Virtualization
instance.
- Go to Service IDs.
- From the Name column, select Data Virtualization
service id for publishing to IBM Knowledge Catalog and connection
management.
- Select Assign access.
- In Create policy, select the UI tab, and
then complete the following steps.
- In Service, select IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
- Select Next.
- In Resources, select All resources.
- Select Next.
- In Roles and actions, select Cloud Pak Data Source
Administrator and Cloud Pak Data Source Creator.
- Select Next.
- Select Add.
- Select Assign to assign the additional roles.
The service ID page appears.
- To confirm that both roles are granted, navigate to the Access
policies section of the page. Then check that Cloud Pak Data Source
Administrator and Cloud Pak Data Source Creator are assigned to
IBM Cloud Pak for Data.
