Creating a segment
You can create segments and use them in personalization rules for optimum targeting of visitors belonging to any channel of your organization.
When you access Acoustic Personalization for the first time, the Segments page is empty. Click Create to create a new segment.
- Click Create.
- In the Create segment window, enter a name for the segment and the segment description.
- Enter the tags that you want to associate with the segment. Press Enter after adding each tag. Tags help in managing and searching the segments.
- Click Next.
- In the Segment pane, you can create inclusion and exclusion conditions.
The Number of rules metric indicates the total number of rules in which the
segment is used. The Properties pane displays the segment name, description,
tags, and created by details. Note: Unless you add a condition, the Save button is not available. To add a condition, go to Step(6)
- To add the inclusion condition, click Add condition.
- Rule builder window is displayed.Note: The default value for Algorithm is Default. In case you want to change it to Most recent, click the Most recent radio button.
- From the Attribute list, select the attribute.

For each attribute in the condition of the rule, you can apply the following behavior:- Select from any of the following time frames:
- Select Days to specify the number of days.
- Select Minutes to specify the number of minutes.
- Select Hours to specify the number of hours.
- Enter the time period value (days, minutes, or hours) in the input field.

Attention: If you select the Most recent algorithm, the Frequency field is not available.From the Frequency list, select At least. Enter the frequency value (the number of times the user performs the action), in the input field.Note:
- Attribute is a user behavior or contextual information using which your channel can be personalized.
- Time frame is the time period during which user performs an action on the page or the zone.
- Frequency is the number of times a user performs an action on the page or the zone.
The default value for Time frame attribute is "in the past 1 day". The default value for At least Frequency attribute is at least 1 time. You cannot specify a value of 0 (zero) for these attributes.
- Select from any of the following time frames:
- Do any one of the following actions:
- To add interaction attribute to the attribute (event), click Add interaction attribute. Go to Step (d).
- If you want to save the condition, click Add.Your segment pane shows the condition. You can click Save to save the segment.
- From the Interaction attribute list, select the attribute.
- From the Operator list, select the operator.
- In the field Value, enter any value.
- Press Enter.
- To add more attributes, click Add interaction attribute.
Repeat steps 4 - 7 for each attribute that you want to include in your condition for personalization.
- You can create rules by using segment conditions with multiple AND / OR operators. If you need to change or remove the condition, you can use the delete icon next to either AND or OR operator.
- To add the conditions, click Add.
- Rule builder window is displayed.
- In the Segment pane, click Save and then click Yes to confirm the changes. Your segment is saved.
Use Exclusion conditions to remove the visitors who evaluate to TRUE for the specified conditions.
Example: Evan creates an inclusion condition as:
- If the visitor selects Swiss watch or any analog watch, then the segment includes all visitors who clicked a Swiss or analog watch.
Capturing most recent activity of channel visitor
You can create a condition that captures the most recent activity performed by the channel visitor and use it for personalization.
- In the Segment pane, click Add condition.
- Click the Most recent radio button.
- Select Product View from the Attribute list.
- Select Days from the Time frame list.
- Enter the time period value as 1 in the input field.
- Click Add interaction attribute.
- From the Interaction attribute list, select Product Name.
- From the Operator list, select contains.
- In the field Value, enter the required value, for example: SleekFit.
- Press Enter.
- To save the condition, click Add. The segment pane shows the condition with the prefix "MOST RECENT ACTION". Click Save to save the segment.
If the visitor recently viewed a product that contains the word SleekFit in the last 1 day, then that visitor behavior matches and the personalized content is shown on the channel.
