Using geolocation for personalization

Krystal, the marketer, wants to provide better personalized experience to the visitors based on their location.

After Krysta logs in to Acoustic Personalization, she navigates to the Segments page of Acoustic Personalization.

Krysta creates a segment for geolocation conditions

Krysta clicks New button to create a segment. She enters a segment name, description, and the tags to be associated with the segment.

Next, Krysta uses the Condition Builder feature to add conditions using the contextual attribute Contextual-Location. For example, she decides to show the personalized content to the visitors from the country UNITED STATES, state California and city Los Angeles.

Krysta selects the appropriate options and then saves the segment.

She now navigates to the Zones page, filters on the channel she wants to personalize, then selects a zone that she is interested in clicks View details menu option. The Zone details page opens under the Content personalization pane.

Krysta creates a rule for geolocation

In the Content personalization pane, Krysta clicks Rule Editor and then clicks New rule. In the new rule screen, she provides the required inputs such as the rule name, the control group percentage, primary goal. She also selects the content to be shown for personalization. In the Segment pane, Krysta clicks Select segment and chooses the segment that she created for geolocation. Krysta saves the rule.

She reviews the rule conditions and then publishes the rule to activate the personalization on that zone. She can reorder the rules and pull up the newly created rule based on geolocation.

How the geolocation-based rule works

When visitor visits the channel, an explicit consent to share their location is popped-up in the web browser. If the visitor agrees to share their location, their latitude and longitude information will be passed to Acoustic Personalization to determine their location. When a visitor from the city of Los Angeles, state of California, country US visits the website, and agrees to share location, the geolocation-based rule matches and the visitor is shown personalized content.

If a visitor denies sharing their location information, the geolocation-based rule is not evaluated and the visitor does not see the personalized content.
