Stand-alone: Installing with the response file on Windows

First install IBM® Installation Manager. You can either create a response file for your system or you can modify one of the existing response files. Use the response file to install IBM WebSphere® Portal Express® and IBM WebSphere Application Server in a stand-alone environment. Record a response file on the same operating system you plan for the installation. If you have multiple operating systems, you must record a response file for each operating system.

About this task

The installation program verifies the operating system and its prerequisites, available disk space, and any required software prerequisites before installation. You cannot install two instances of the server at the same time, even if you are installing to different directories. You must install each server completely before installing the next one. The bit architecture of the installation program uses one of the following options:
  • The bit architecture of the operating system
  • The bit architecture of the existing WebSphere Application Server
For example, if you are installing onto a 64-bit operating system, WebSphere Portal Express installs as a 64-bit version. You can force a 32-bit application installation onto a 64-bit operating system.
There are sample response files, located in the setup_root/responsefiles directory. Manually update these files based on your environment. Also replace the following lines in the sample response files if you installed WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Express from the live repository (Passport Advantage®):
Existing lines in the response file

Go to Command-line interface to update Portal v8 response files for a script to help you update an existing response file.

Procedure

  1. Type ping yourserver.yourcompany.com on a command line to verify that your fully qualified host name is properly configured.
  2. Type ping localhost on a command line to verify that your network is properly configured.
  3. If you are installing on a server with a firewall, antivirus, screen saver, and desktop search engine that is enabled, disable them before you install. If you do not disable them and the installation program detects them, a warning message displays during the installation.
  4. Choose the appropriate installation task to install or upgrade the IBM Installation Manager:
    • Run the install task, located in the IIM directory, to install the IBM Installation Manager.
    • Run the setup.exe task from the Portal Setup disk if you have a Windows 32-bit operating system and you want to start the launchpad to complete all necessary installation steps.
    • Run the setup64.exe task from the Portal Setup disk if you have a Windows 64-bit operating system and you want to start the launchpad to complete all necessary installation steps. Right-click on setup64.exe, then select "Run as administrator", to launch.
    • If you have an existing IBM Installation Manager, open the IBM Installation Manager and navigate to File > Updates to search for updates to the latest supported version.
Launchpad tip: On the Launchpad Install Portal panel, you have the following options:
Install IBM WebSphere Portal from media
Choose this option if you are installing directly from the DVD.
Install IBM WebSphere Portal from network
Choose this option if you downloaded the e-images.
    Install IBM Installation Manager only
Choose this option if you want to install multiple IBM products or if you want to install WebSphere Portal Express directly from IBM Passport Advantage.
Tip: Add the LaunchPadLocale language_code to the setup task to change the display to your user locale or to another language. See the following information for the supported language codes:

Note: After completing all necessary steps from the launchpad, verify that your installation was successful.
  5. Complete the following steps to record a response file based on your environment:
Attention: This step does not install WebSphere Portal Express. You are only recording the response file that you will use to install WebSphere Portal Express later.
Note: See Use response files to install for additional information.
    1. Run the following task from the InstallationManager_root/eclipse directory to record the response file:
      IBMIM.exe -record pathtoresponsexmlfile -skipInstall tempinstalldirectory
      -record
This parameter indicates recording the actions and parameters into the response file. pathtoresponsexmlfile is the name of the response file, for example Wp8SampleResp.xml. tempinstalldirectory is the directory where the response file is recorded.
      -skipInstall
This parameter indicates no actual installation is performed even though it leads to the final panel.
      tempinstalldirectory
This value is a directory where the installation saves the history and data when recording response files.
    2. Go to File > Preferences > Repositories to add your repositories.
Tip: Before adding the repositories, make sure they are located in a directory that is accessible to all required computers.
    3. Click Install.
    4. On the Install Packages: Select packages to install panel, select both the WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Express packages.
    5. Click Next.
    6. On the Install Packages: Select the fixes to install panel, select the following fixes based on how you are accessing the repository:
When you install WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Express together from the live repository (Passport Advantage)
      • 8.0.0.3-WS-WAS-IFPM59935
      • 8.0.0.3-WS-WAS-IFPM60670
      • 8.0.0.3-WS-WASProd-IFPM60134

    7. Accept the license agreement and then click Next.
    8. Select the directory where you want to store shared resources and then click Next.
    9. Complete the following steps on the Install Packages: Installation Directory panel:
The installation directory that you specify must NOT contain any files or the following characters:
      • ~
      • !
      • @
      • #
      • $

      1. Select the WebSphere Application Server Package Group Name and then select the installation directory path.
      2. Select the WebSphere Portal Express Package Group Name and then select the installation directory path.
      3. Click Next.
    10. Select the translations to install and then click Next.
    11. On the Install Packages: Select the features to install panel, expand the WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Express packages to modify the features you want to install and then click Next.
Attention: Expand the WebSphere Portal Express package. Keep the default selection checked to create a new profile. A WebSphere Portal Express server profile is required for a stand-alone installation.
Note: As you select the items, read the Details section for information about the selections.
    12. On the Profile configuration details panel, enter your topology and administrative credential information.
    13. Click Collecting DB2 credentials.
    14. On the Collecting DB2 credentials panel, enter your DB2® values. Then click Test User ID to verify your credentials against the system policies.
    15. Confirm the information on the Summary panel and then click Install.
    16. After the Installation Manager finishes creating the response file, click Finish and then close the Installation Manager to complete the response file recording.
    17. If installing on a different computer, copy the response file to the response file directory on that computer.
  6. If the repository URL requires authentication, use the IBM Installation Manager command-line tool to create a keyring file store.
The keyring file stores the credentials required for the repositories. The IBM Installation Manager command-line tool imutilsc is available from the installation tools directory. The following information is an example of the imutilsc keyring file command:
imutilsc saveCredential -url repository_URL -userName credential_userName
    	-userPassword password -keyring keyring_file [ -password keyringfile_password ]
    	[ -proxyHost proxy_host -proxyPort proxy_port
    		[ -proxyUsername proxy_username -proxyUserPassword proxyuser_password ]
    		[ -useSocks ] ]
    	[ -verbose ]
Note: If installing on a different computer, copy the keyring file to that computer.
  7. From your installation tools directory, run the imcl -acceptLicense input pathtoresponse.xml -log pathtologfiles task to install WebSphere Portal Express and IBM WebSphere Application Server.
Tip: Add the -keyring pathtokeyring -password keyringfile_password parameters to the imcl command if you are using a keyring file to store credentials.
  8. Verify that your installation was successful; access WebSphere Portal Express using the http://yourserver:yourport/wps/portal format.
