Applying constraints to a variable

Applying Constraints to a Variable involves defining rules that limit the type and range of values a variable can hold.

About this task

You can apply content constraints to variables in the document types that you want to use as blueprints in data validation.

In a flow service, you can apply content constraints to variables (fields) in two main places:
  • Document Type Fields
  • Input/output Page (Define I/O)

Procedure

  1. On the Document Types page, for a document type, click the Edit icon.
  2. Select a document type and click the Edit icon to view the field properties.
  3. From the field properties select a variable.
  4. Select a content type from the Content type list that matches an XML schema type.
  5. Click Save to apply the type to the variable.
  6. Repeat these steps for each variable you want to apply constrain.
