Installing watsonx.data developer edition on Windows
This section provides step-by-step instructions for installing the watsonx.data developer edition on Windows.
Prerequisites
Ensure that the system meets the requirements: Prerequisites for installing watsonx.data Developer Edition on Windows.
Procedure
- Sign up to download the watsonx.data developer edition from Sign up page.
- Expand the Windows section and download the latest version of the watsonx.data developer edition installer.
- Install the application:
- Double-click the downloaded
EXEfile. The installation process begins. - Provide installer permission when prompted.
- Installation Behavior
- This section explains how the installer interacts with the system environment, manages dependencies such as WSL for Podman, and guides you through any required restarts or relaunches to ensure a smooth installation.
- Podman & WSL Support on Windows
Podman requires Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) to function properly on Windows systems. If WSL is not already installed, the installer automatically initiates the WSL setup during Podman initialization. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. After WSL is installed, Windows prompts you to restart the system. This restart is mandatory to finalize the setup. Once the system restarts, relaunch the Dev Edition Installer from your desktop and continue the installation process.

- Run the Dev edition installer
- Press Command and Space bar, then search for Dev Edition Installer.
- Double-click the installer. The installer page opens.
- Expand the Pods section, read the license agreement, and select the checkbox to accept it.
- Click Set up watsonx.data Dev Edition. A confirmation message is displayed. Click Confirm to proceed with the setup. The Installation log section displays the progress logs during installation.
- You can view the progress in the Setup progress section. Expand the Pods section to view the individual pods and their status.
- When the process completes, a
Setup process completed messageappears in the Installation log section. A green Installed <version> tag is also displayed in the Component > Dev Edition section.
