Connecting to Db2 for i on IBM Power Systems

Db2 for i is IBM’s integrated relational database that is built into the IBM i operating system, which runs exclusively on IBM Power Systems. Unlike stand-alone databases, Db2 for i is not a separate product. It is fully embedded within IBM i and uses the advanced architecture and performance optimizations of IBM Power hardware. This integration delivers exceptional reliability, security, and scalability for enterprise workloads.

Before you begin

Ensure that the following system and configuration requirements are met:
  • Presto engine is provisioned in watsonx.data.
  • Db2 for i database server is running on IBM i.
  • Required ports are open: 8471 for non-SSL or 9471 for SSL connections.
  • SSL/TLS is configured (recommended for production environments).
  • The IBM i user profile has the necessary authorities to access the database objects.
