Registering and activating semantic layer

Follow the instructions in this topic to activate semantic enrichment in IBM® watsonx.data.

watsonx.data on IBM Software Hub

Before you begin

To register and enable semantic layer in watsonx.data, make sure that the following are available.

  • You must have either the Administrator or Metastore Administrator role in watsonx.data, and the Instance Administrator role for either the watsonx.data Intelligence service or IBM Knowledge Catalog (IKC) on the IBM Software Hub platform cluster.
  • Presto (Java) or Presto (C++) engine must be provisioned.
  • ZenAPI key of the corresponding IBM Software Hub user. For more information, see Using Authorization: ZenApiKey token.
  • Enable the semantic enrichment feature. See Configuration options for the generative AI capabilities.
Important: The API key will be associated with a functional user in watsonx.data. This user acts as a communication channel between watsonx.data intelligence and watsonx.data. The tables watsonx.data intelligence can enrich are limited to those this specific watsonx.data user has permission to access. Additionally, any watsonx.data intelligence objects like projects, catalogs, business terms, or actions like publishing, reviewing in watsonx.data will be attributed to this functional user.

Procedure

  1. Log in to watsonx.data console.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Configurations and click Semantic layer integration tile.
  3. Click Add a registration.
  4. In the Access Management window, enter the ZenAPI or API key in the Zen API key field.
Note: You can generate and copy a new API key from the user profile settings of the CPD cluster. See Using Authorization: ZenApiKey token.
  5. Select a Presto engine from the engine list and click Ok. Semantic automation layer is active.
