Editing, deactivating, activating, or deleting data source definitions
Edit, delete, or update the status of a data source definition.
From the navigation menu, go to Data > Connectivity > Data source definitions.
On the Data source definitions tab, you can see the data source definitions that are public and private assets or assets
that you are a member of. See Roles and asset privacy settings for data source definitions for prerequisite roles.
Edit a data source definition
Important: When you edit the data source definition, the data protection might be disrupted for the associated connected data assets. Verify your changes before you save.
- Open the overflow menu
for the data source definition, and then select Edit. - Review the Summary details. Click the Edit icon
to go to a different step or click Back to go to
the Data source endpoints step.
Some connectors require hard-coded properties that cannot be edited. For more information on these connectors, see Connectors with hard-coded data source identity properties. - Click Save.
The data source definition is assigned to all connections or connected data assets for the account across the platform with matching endpoints. Additionally, when users create new connections that have endpoints that match the data source definition, the data source definition is assigned to the connections or connected data assets.
Deactivate a data source definition
Deactivate a data source definition if you want to keep the data source definition properties, but not remove the data source definition. For example, you can deactivate a data source definition before you delete it to confirm any effects from changes to data protection.
Important: When you deactivate a data source definition, the data source definition remains assigned to connections and connected data assets, but the data protection rules are no longer enforced by the specified protection solution. The affected data assets might become unprotected or subject to multiple solutions. Multiple protection solutions can decrease data integrity or result in SQL exceptions.
Open the overflow menu for the data source definition, and then select Deactivate.
Activate a data source definition
Activate a data source definition if it is in an Inactive status. If you edited the data source definition when it was in an Inactive status, the new settings will apply.
Open the overflow menu for the data source definition, and then select Activate.
Delete a data source definition
Delete a data source definition to remove it permanently.
Important: When you delete a data source definition, a background job runs that unassigns the data source definition from the connections and connected data assets that it was assigned to. The data protection rules are no longer enforced by the specified protection solution. The affected data assets might become unprotected or subject to multiple protection solutions. Multiple protection solutions can decrease data integrity or result in SQL exceptions.
Open the overflow menu for the data source definition, and then select Delete.
