Roles on Orchestrate

On IBM watsonx Orchestrate™, different roles are defined for team members to help you understand the different available and supported tasks so that you can get up and running with your skill set quickly and efficiently.

The roles are user, builder, and administrator (admin). See a description of these roles and their key tasks to understand what each role can do on Orchestrate.

Tip: The following defined roles are referenced in the entire product documentation with tags to identify what role can complete different use cases and tasks.
Note: Are you looking for information on the tasks that each role can play on IBM watsonx Orchestrate On Premises in IBM Cloud Pak® for Data? See Giving users access to a watsonx Orchestrate instance 🡥 in the IBM Cloud Pak for Data documentation.

User

As a user, you're responsible for getting work done. That might mean that you get some repetitive tasks that you do daily, or it might mean you're responsible for making sure that those tasks get done, no matter how it happens. You might be involved in planning and implementing solutions, but you know that it's on you at the end of the day. You manage your time, react when things go wrong, and get the job done no matter what.

Builder

As a builder, you're the person responsible for realizing the dreams of your peers (and your own dreams). Taking input from managers and employees, you create customized skills for skill sets that fit specific needs. Have an idea for a skill? You can build custom skills through discovery apps, or you can build custom skills by using OpenAPI specifications to create a solution and implement your ideas.

Note: Builders can also complete all the tasks of the user role.

Administrator (admin)

You count on your employees to get their work done while you maintain relationships with all your stakeholders and make sure everybody's needs are met. Track metrics as a means to make sure that your staff is staying happy and productive. You're responsible for the high-level strategy and ensure that vision gets realized.

Note: Admins can also complete all the tasks of the user and builder roles.
