Build Client Install Configuration

About this task

The Build Client Install Configuration feature allows administrators to manage mainframe router credentials for z/OS® systems. It provides a centralized user interface to create, view, edit, update, and delete z/OS connection configurations.

Following are the features of the Build Client Install Configuration:
  • Secure Storage: Credentials are encrypted prior to storage.
  • TLS Support: TLS configuration is optional with conditional credential requirements.
Procedure
  1. Log in to the Z Understand Configuration Service Admin user interface.
  2. Click Configure > Servers and Security > Build Client install configuration.
  3. Enter the following details:
    Field Required Default Description
    z/OS Name Yes - Indicates the unique identifier for the z/OS system.
    Note: This unique identifier is used as the configuration ID.
    Host Yes - Indicates the hostname or IP address of the mainframe router.
    Port Yes - Indicates the port number that is used for the mainframe router connection.
    Threads No - Indicates the number of concurrent threads that are used for processing.
    TLS Optional Disabled Indicates to enable or disable TLS for secure communication.
    Username Conditional - Indicates the authentication username.
    Note: The username field is available only when the TLS option is enabled.
    Password Conditional - Indicates the authentication password.
    Note: The password field is available only when the TLS option is enabled.
  4. Click Save.
You can view the configuration table where all configured z/OS systems are listed. To add a new z/OS system, click the ADD button. To modify an existing configuration, click Edit icon, and to remove a configuration, click the Delete icon.

Codepage Configuration for PDS Libraries

About this task

This feature enables you to configure the character encoding (codepage) used when reading the PDS (Partitioned Data Set) libraries from mainframe systems. Since different environments use different codepages, it ensures accurate data interpretation.
Here are the available options:
  • English (US / Western Europe) – ENG (Default)
  • English (UK) – ENG-UK
  • French – FRE
  • Swedish – SWE
  • Danish – DAN
Usage
  • Navigate to Configure > Build Client Configuration.
  • Locate the Codepage for PDS libraries drop down menu.
  • Select the appropriate codepage based on your environment.
  • Click Save

    A notification is received confirming that the configuration has been saved.

TLS Certificate Upload for z/OS Connections

About this task

This feature enables you to configure secure z/OS connections by uploading TLS/SSL certificates. When TLS is enabled, a certificate (.pem) can be uploaded and used by the Build Client CLI for secure communication.
Usage
  • Navigate to Configure > Build Client Configuration > z/OS Connections
  • Create or edit a z/OS connection
  • Enable the TLS option
  • Upload a .pem certificate file
  • Click Save

Support for sync action in container

About this task

This feature displays the file system path of the member synchronization configuration file. It is for informational purposes only and cannot be edited through the user interface.
Usage
  • Navigate to Configure > Build Client Configuration
  • Locate the Path for member synchronization configuration file field
  • View the default path (/wca4z-understand/IBM Application Discovery Build Client CLI/config/projects)
  • sync_cli.txt file is generated at wca4z-understand/config/projects directory on the VM, and it's corresponding location inside the container is /wca4z-understand/IBM Application Discovery Build Client CLI/config/projects.
