Prebuilt agents
Prebuilt agents on IBM watsonx Orchestrate are templates designed to perform specific tasks by integrating seamlessly with various systems and applications. By using prebuilt agents, you can focus on customization tailored to your workflows while reducing errors and increasing overall productivity.
See Connecting apps for prebuilt agents for more details.
Viewing a prebuilt agent
When you select an agent from the catalog, the details page opens with two main tabs: Overview and Configuration details. These tabs help you understand what the agent does and how it is set up.
You may also see a Use as template action, which lets you create a custom agent based on the selected one.
Agent overview
The Overview tab gives you a clear summary of the agent and the resources it uses.
| Details | Description |
|---|---|
| Description | The Description explains what the agent is designed to do and the types of tasks it supports. This helps you quickly confirm whether the agent fits your use case. |
| Tools | The Tools section lists all the tools the agent uses. You can browse the list or use the search bar to look for specific tools. Each tool entry includes a short explanation of what the tool does and the application it connects to. |
| Agents | Some agents can delegate tasks to other agents. The Agents section displays these collaborator agents when they are available. If the selected agent has no collaborators, the section displays an empty‑state message. |
Configuration details
The Configuration details tab provides the technical information needed for reference, auditing, or reuse.
| Details | Description |
|---|---|
| Model | Shows the AI model used by the agent. |
| Agent ID | A unique identifier you can use for tracking, referencing, and integration. |
Depending on the agent type and updates, you see an informational banner at the top that provides quick access to key resources such as demo videos, documentation, and case studies. These resources are based on the agent specification and are determined by the agent provider. If no resources are available, the banner will not be shown. This feature is currently available for globally accessible agents, including IBM-provided domain agents and partner-provided ones.
Metadata panel
The right‑hand panel gives you quick access to key information about the agent. You can view:
| Details | Description |
|---|---|
| Published status | Indicates whether the agent is published and available for use. |
| Categories | The business domains the agent supports, such as HR, Procurement, IT, or Sales. |
| Version | The current version of the agent, with a link to view recent versions if available. See Managing agent and tool versions for more details. |
| Last updated | The date when the agent was last revised. |
| Languages supported | The languages the agent can understand or operate in. |
| Offering | The solution or product area the agent belongs to. |
Depending on the agent, you may see additional metadata that helps you understand its capabilities and configuration.
Using prebuilt agents
You can run a prebuilt agent directly in Orchestrate Chat:
- From the main menu, click Chat.
- From the Agents dropdown, select the agent you want to use.
- Enter a natural‑language request based on your task.
- The agent responds using its configured capabilities, tools, and workflows.
For detailed guidance, see Using agents in Orchestrate Chat.
llama-3-2-90b-vision-instruct, the current default LLM for domain agents, will be deprecated in Q1 2026 (January – March 2026). The platform is transitioning to GPT‑OSS 120B — OpenAI (via Groq) as the new default to provide faster performance and an improved agent experience.
- Agents in scope will automatically switch to GPT‑OSS 120B as their default model.
- Agents outside the scope of this update will continue using their existing models.
- Agents already deployed on tenants will retain their current model selection.
