Adding data to a scenario

You can add local files to a Decision Optimization scenario and to the project. You can also import data from your project into your scenario.

Procedure

To add data to a scenario:

  1. In the Prepare data view, click Add data.
    The Add data window opens.
  2. Select one or more assets from either the Project files or Local files, and click Add data.
The assets appear listed in the Prepare data view and also in the data assets that are listed in your project. When you add local files, these tables are imported into both your scenario and your project. You can also choose which folder in the project to upload these files to.

Results

Your chosen data files can now be viewed and edited in your scenario in the Prepare data view. Changes made to a data file in the scenario are not made to the data file in the project unless you export the data file to the project.

You can add files in most formats, including .csv, .xls, .json files, and connected data. If you are using Excel files with multiple sheets, only the first sheet will be added. However, you can export each sheet as a .csv file to add your data to your Decision Optimization experiment.

Note: If your .cvs file contains any malicious payload (formulas for example) in an input field, these items might be executed.

Subsequently, if you modify, replace or delete a data set in the Project, these actions have no impact on your scenario, unless you choose to add it again from the project to your scenario. Similarly, if you re-upload a new version of a table using the Add data button in the Prepare data view, the project data asset is not affected, unless you choose to export the scenario data file into your project.

If you add a file again, you can choose to add it with a new name. This renaming can be useful if you want to use different versions of the same data table. You can also choose to Replace existing asset which will overwrite the current table in both your scenario and the project. If you choose to re-import and update a table, a notification message appears listing which tables are overwritten.
