Creating a project

You create a project to achieve a particular goal by collaborating with your team on working with data and other resources.

Your sandbox project is created automatically when you sign up for watsonx.ai.

You can create an empty project, start from a sample project that provides sample data and other assets, or import a previously exported project. If you want to import a project, see Importing a project.

Your project resources can include data, collaborators, tools, assets that run code, and other types of assets.

Requirements, restrictions, and configurations

Before you create a project, understand the requirements, restrictions, and configuration options.

Project name requirements
Your project name must follow these requirements:
  • Must be unique in the account.
  • Must contain 1 - 255 characters.
  • Can't contain these characters: % \
  • Can't contain leading or trailing underscores (_).
  • Can't contain leading or trailing spaces. Leading or trailing spaces are automatically truncated.
Maximum number of projects restriction
You can create a maximum of 100 projects per regional data center. The limit applies to all cloud accounts that you belong to and experiences that you can access. For example, if you have access to two experiences on a data center, you can create a total of 100 projects. If you also have access to an experience on a different data center, you can create 100 projects on that data center.
You can join an unlimited number of projects.
Storage requirement
You must associate storage with your project to store assets:
  • Select an IBM Cloud Object Storage service instance or create a new instance. Each project has a separate bucket to hold its assets. If you are not an administrator for the IBM Cloud Object Storage instance, it must be configured to allow project creation. See Setting up IBM Cloud Object Storage.
  • Select an S3 bucket that is shared across projects or a dedicated bucket for this project.
Sensitive project configuration
The project has a sensitive tag and project collaborators can't move data assets out of the project. You cannot change this setting after the project is created. See Mark the project as sensitive.
