Using Refinement Settings

Additional refinement settings are available at the top of the Refinements > Settings section on the display's Settings tab. These additional options are the following:

  • Refinements to show - Output these refinements (specified by their ID), if they exist, in all search tabs. Refinement IDs may be optionally preceded by either +, to specify that a refinement be displayed, or -, to suppress displaying a specific refinement. Specifying any refinements for output will override any refinement that is suppressed. For example, author with -size will only display the author. To further control the display of a refinement, add a new Refinement Bargraph or Refinement Tree setting below for each refinement you want to control.
  • Refinements Collapsible? - Provide toggles that allow users to expand and collapse refinement sections. The default setting is false.
  • Refinement "No Label" Text - The text to use when a refinement unit has no label.
  • Refinement units per set - The number of refinement units to show per refinement set. The default setting is 10.
  • Refinement sets expanded on load - The number of refinement sets to show expanded on page load (if user has not already expanded or collapsed any sets). The default setting is -1.
  • Refinements "show more" method - Choose the method for showing more than the top refinements. The default setting is pager.
Note: The dialog "show more" method requires the optional Refinement Selector Dialog display component.
  • Refinements "show more" units per set - The number of refinement units to reveal for each click on the "show more" link (set to -1 to show all on one click). This setting is used for both the basic show more method as well as in the pager method within hierarchical refinements. The default setting is 10.
  • Refinement label max word length - When there are words in the refinement label that are longer than this length, truncate them and append them with ellipses ('...') The default setting is 30.
Note: If your binning label is long and cannot wrap, you may want to set Refinement label max word length to a low enough value to appropriately truncate the label.
  • Refinement Section Header Text - Text for the header above the entire refinement section.
  • Refinement Header Prefix Text - Text that goes before the label for each refinement set. The default setting is refine by.
  • Refinements show nested headers? - Show headers for nested refinement sets. The default setting is false.
  • Refinement paging - Number Connection Text - This is the text that connects the current refinement page number to the total number of refinement pages. The default setting is of.
  • Refinement Bargraph Reset Text - The text for the "reset" link that will return bargraphs to their original state without any restrictions on the results. The default setting is reset.
  • Refinement Label XPath -XPath for each refinement label relative to a <bin> XML node.
  • Active Refinement Title Text - When a refinement is active, this is the title/tooltip on the link to remove that refinement from the currently selected refinements. The default setting is Click to remove refinement.
  • Refinement pager "show more" text - Text for the "show more" link when the "show more" method is set to "pager". The default setting is show more....
  • Refinement pager "show top" text - Text for the "show top" link when the "show more" method is set to "pager". This link appears when there are no more refinements to show in a list. The default setting is show top {$bins-num-show}.
  • Refinement dialog "show more" text - Text for the "show more" link when the "show more" method is set to "dialog". The default setting is show more....
