Configuring Logging Levels

In general, the logging that is done for a Watson™ Explorer Engine search collection is configured for the best balance of performance and information. The logs contain information regarding the state of the search-engine at any particular point. Reducing the amount of logging will increase performance but reduce visibility into the state of the search-engine. Increasing logging will have the opposite effect: slower performance but better visibility into the state of the search-engine. We recommend that additional logging be configured when diagnosing problems and that unnecessary logging be removed when not actively being used.

Note: Watson Explorer Engine also supports an audit log, which can only be accessed and manipulated using the Watson Explorer Engine SOAP/REST API. For more information about the audit log, see Using the Audit Log.
