Adding Form-Based Authentication Support

Building a search collection based on content that is protected by form-based authentication requires that you add a special component to that search collection. This component is used when crawling the remote resource, and provides the support required for form-based authentication.

To add this component, known as a crawler condition, to a search collection:

  1. Open that search collection in the Watson Explorer Engine administration tool.
  2. Select the search collection's Configuration tab.
  3. Select the search collection's Crawling sub-tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Conditional Settings section of the screen and click Add a new condition. A pop-up dialog displays.
  5. Scroll through the list of items displayed in the pop-up, select the item named Form-Based Authentication, and click Add.

The new crawler condition displays at the bottom of the Conditional Settings section of the page. See the next section for information about supplying and saving the appropriate values for the fields that this component requires. The next section also explains how to analyze the exchange that you captured using tools such as the ones that are described in Capturing HTTP Transactions.
