Installing Liberty using Installation Manager
You can install WebSphere® Application Server Liberty using IBM® Installation Manager Version 1.8.5 or later. Installation Manager provides managed installations, allows for in-place updates, and is the same tool that is used to install many other IBM products.
About this task
The minimum acceptable version of IBM Installation Manager for installing Liberty is 1.9.0 or later.
Java™ SE 25 is the recommended Java SDK because it provides the latest features and security updates. As an alternative to installing Java SE 25, you can install another supported Java SDK version. Liberty runs on any of the Java SE versions that are listed in the Java SE versions column of the Supported Java Releases table on the Open Liberty website. The Supported Java Releases table also includes the anticipated end of support dates for each Java SE version.

Installation Manager is a general-purpose software installation and update tool that runs on a range of computer systems. You can use the Installation Manager graphical user interface (GUI), command line, response files, or console mode as dependent on your operating system.
The documentation primarily covers installing the Liberty product. You can also install supplemental offerings to use with Liberty, such as IBM HTTP Server or the Web Server Plug-ins. For information about installing these offerings, see the installation documentation for WebSphere Application Server traditional.
