Getting started with the WebSphere Liberty operator

A cluster administrator can install and configure the WebSphere® Liberty operator operator while an application administrator can create and deploy an application image and configure security for applications. These administrative tasks can be done by one person responsible for both roles, or by different people.

Getting started with operators for cluster administrators

Before you install and validate the WebSphere Liberty operator installation, ensure that as the cluster administrator you are familiar with Red Hat® OpenShift® software and the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.

  1. Install the WebSphere Liberty operator.
  2. Validate the installation.

Getting started with operators for application administrators

You can configure and deploy applications, set up security for them, and obtain dumps and traces for Liberty server instances that run inside a pod.

  1. Create an application image and deploy it to a Kubernetes environment.
  2. Configure security for containerized applications.

You can configure single sign-on (SSO) or basic authentication so that users can authenticate to containerized applications. Additionally, you can configure container certificates to secure containerized applications.

  3. Optionally obtain dumps for Liberty server instances.
  4. Optionally obtain traces for Liberty server instances.
