Policy-based replication (PBR)

Policy-based replication (PBR) enables VM Recovery Manager DR to use replication policies that are defined and managed on supported IBM Flash System storage systems. A replication policy defines the replication characteristics that are applied to storage resources, such as the replication relationship between source and target storage systems. VM Recovery Manager DR uses these storage-defined policies to manage replication for protected workloads without requiring replication settings to be configured individually for each resource.

VM Recovery Manager DR supports assigning replication policies at the system, host group, and workgroup levels. A replication policy can be inherited from the system level or configured specifically for a host group or workgroup based on workload requirements. During discovery, VM Recovery Manager DR validates the configured replication policy names against the corresponding replication policies on the storage system and uses them to manage discovery, verification, recovery, and replication operations.
