Attestations

Issuers perform various levels of verification before issuing credentials. As examiners conduct more thorough vetting, the value of issued credentials increases.

Table 1. Types of Attestations
Attestation Type Description Trust Factor Example
Self-Attested Claims made by the individual or organization about themselves. Low John claims to be an artist.
Peer-Attested Claims made by a known individual or organization. Medium Joe vouches for the fact that John is an artist.
Vetted Claims made after due diligence and regulatory checks. High John sells a painting and the brokerage firm that handles the sale issues John a sales certificate.
