Installing with SMIT

Use the smit command to complete the IBM® Verify Directory installation on an AIX® system.

Before you begin

You must prepare the IBM Verify Directory installation media. See Preparation of installation media.

About this task

The smit installation program installs IBM Verify Directory on an AIX system. If a supported version of DB2® is installed on the system, the installation process updates the ldapdb.properties file with the DB2 path name and version.

Procedure

Log in as the root user.
Access the command prompt.
Change the current working directory to the directory where the IBMSecurity Verify Directory installable components are extracted and stored.
Run the idsLicense command.
```
cd license
./idsLicense
```
If you agree to accept the terms in the Software license agreement, enter 1.
The following options are available to you:
- 1: To accept the license agreement.
- 2: To decline the license agreement and exit the installation.
On accepting the terms in the license agreement, a license folder is created in the IBM Verify Directory installation location. The license folder contains IBM Verify Directory license files in all supported languages.
Important: Do not modify or delete the license files in the license folder.
Change the current working directory to images folder and run the smit install command.
```
cd images
smit install
```
The Software Installation and Maintenance window opens.
Click Install and Update Software > Install and Update from ALL Available Software.
Select your installation media.
- When installing from the extracted folder where archive file is decompressed, enter . in the INPUT device/directory for software field.
Click Do.
Move the cursor to Software to install, and take the following actions.
1. To install the idsldap file set, type idsldap.
2. Click List to list all the file sets, and select the file sets that you want to install.
3. Click OK.
To start the installation, click OK.
Check the installation summary at the end of the output to verify successful installation of the file sets.
After the installation is complete, click Done.
To exit the SMIT program, press the F12 key.
Optional step when installing Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition entitlement packages:

cd entitlement
smit install
```
Using similar steps install idsldap* fileset provided in the entitlement folder.
Verify whether the IBM Verify Directory installation is successful.

Results

The installation program installs IBM Verify Directory in the /opt/IBM/ldap/V11.0.1/ directory on the AIX system. If a supported version of DB2 is installed on the system, the installation process updates the ldapdb.properties file with the DB2 path name and version.

What to do next

After the IBM Verify Directory installation, you must take the following action.

To use IBM Verify Directory as a full directory server, create a directory server instance. See Creating the default directory server instance.
To use IBM Verify Directory as a proxy server, create a proxy server instance. See Creating a proxy server instance with custom settings.
