Planning for installation

You must decide hardware, software, user roles, security, and other requirements for your directory server environment before installation of IBM® Verify Directory.

Planning roadmap

Use this checklist to install a server.

If you are upgrading from a previous release, do not use this checklist. Instead, see Upgrade an instance of a previous version for instructions.

  1. Read a brief overview to understand the components of IBM Verify Directory.
  2. Be sure that you have the minimum required hardware and software. For information about the requirements, see System requirements and Disk space requirements.
  3. Install prerequisite software components such as Db2®.
  4. Install IBM Verify Directory.
  5. Install GSKit v9.
  6. On Windows™ systems, if the system restarts, log on as the user you were logged on as during installation.
  7. Install other prerequisite software components such as Java™ SDK and WebSphere® Application Server.
  8. Use the Instance Administration Tool to manage directory server instances.
  9. Optionally, verify the installation and configuration by loading the sample LDIF file into the database. For more information, see Loading a sample database and starting the server.
  10. Start the directory server instance and, if you installed the Web Administration Tool, start it.
  11. For information about setting up and using the server and the Web Administration Tool, see the Administering section of the IBM Verify Directory documentation.

If you installed a full directory server and you want to plan the organization of your database, see Configuration planning.
