Support for Linux on x86 architecture
Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server are supported. With this support, IBM TXSeries for Multiplatforms on Linux provides base-level CICS programming interfaces, allowing applications to be developed on COBOL, C, C++ and Java to create solutions for business-critical transaction processing. For information on supported software, see http://www.ibm.com/software/products/en/txseries.
TXSeries on Linux is installed through Install Anywhere. The product gets installed in $CICSPATH directory. The regions, SFS and PPC gateway directories remain at /var/ directory.
TXSeries is supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating system versions of Linux. In a 64-bit OS, the product runs in 32-bit compatibility mode. However, you need to ensure that the programs are compiled using 32-bit flags and linked with 32-bit libraries.
The installer automatically updates CICS specific environment variables in system’s profile file during the installation process. It is recommended that you logout and login after installation for the variables to take effect in your current shell. The product requires the Korn shell to be present on the operating system. After installation, the administration GUI is started by default if the port 9443 is free.
For application development, C applications require GCC compiler for compiling the application, while Micro Focus COBOL and COBOLIT are supported for compiling COBOL applications.
TXSeries on Linux can communicate with other TXSeries regions on all platforms, CICS Transaction Server, CICS Transaction Gateway and through the intersystem communication techniques supported by TXSeries in earlier releases.
