The steps that are used to start the backup-archive client
graphical interface (GUI) program depend on the operating system.
Procedure
Complete the procedure that is appropriate for your operating
system to start the Java GUI program.

 - Double-click the Tivoli® Storage Manager application
to start Tivoli Storage Manager without
system administrator privileges. When you run Tivoli Storage
Manager without
system administrator privileges, you can manage files that are owned
by the current user.
- Double-click TSM Tools for Administrators and
select Tivoli Storage Manager. After
you enter a system administrator user name and password, Tivoli Storage Manager starts with system
administrator privileges. When you run Tivoli Storage
Manager with system
administrator privileges, you can manage files that are owned by all
users on the system.
- You can also start Tivoli Storage Manager client by
using the dsmj command. You can run the client
as either a foreground or background process. The dsmj script
is installed in /Library/Application Support/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin.

    On UNIX systems other
than Mac OS X, the Tivoli Storage Manager GUI
must be run from the X Window System. If you see the Tivoli Storage Manager icon
on your desktop, Tivoli Storage Manager is
already running. Double-click the icon to open the Tivoli Storage Manager window.
If the Tivoli Storage Manager icon
is not displayed on your desktop, start the Tivoli Storage Manager graphical
interface by using the dsmj command. You can run
the client as either a foreground or background process.

 To start the Tivoli Storage Manager GUI
on a Windows system, use one of the following methods: - Click .
- Click and enter the full path to the backup client dsm.exe file.
- On the command line, change directory to the Tivoli Storage Manager installation
directory and enter dsm.
On Windows operating
systems that have the User Account Control feature enabled, you might
be prompted to allow the dsm.exe program to run.
To allow the program to continue and start the backup-archive client
GUI, provide administrative credentials.
