To protect client data and the server, ensure that you
back up storage pools and the server database before starting the
migration process. You will need these files if you must revert to
the previous Tivoli® Storage
Manager version.
The server migration instructions provide detailed information
about the backup tasks that must be completed. The two main backup
tasks are listed here:
Tip: When you back up the database, make two copies to
protect the backup from media failures. Ensure that at least one full
database backup is available onsite. If you must restore the database
after a failed upgrade, having an onsite backup saves time.

Important: Do not uninstall the V5 server on the z/OS® system until you verify that
the migration to V7.1.1 was
successful.
