Tivoli® Storage Manager provides several methods for sending client data to server storage.
In many configurations, the Tivoli Storage Manager client sends its data to the server over the LAN. The server then transfers the data to a device that is attached to the server. You can also use storage agents that are installed on client nodes to send data over a SAN. This minimizes use of the LAN and the use of the computing resources of both the client and the server. For details, see LAN-free data movement.
For network-attached storage, use NDMP operations to avoid data movement over the LAN. For details, see NDMP backup operations.
