Floor requirements
Your facility must meet specified floor leveling, loading, and weight distribution requirements before you can install the TS7700.
Floor – general
A 3948-F0x or 3952-F0x can be installed on a raised or solid floor meeting the minimum leveling and floor-loading capacity requirements. The floor under the library must have a smooth surface with no ventilation grates under the frame's leveling pads. If the floor is carpeted, the carpeting must be approved for use in a computer environment (that is, it must display low electrostatic discharge characteristics).
Floor – leveling
The leveling pads on the 3952 Tape Frame can be adjusted to compensate for an uneven floor where the frame is to be installed. The maximum out-of-level condition is 25.4 mm (1 in.) over the frame's length and width.
Floor – weight distribution and loading for the base frame
If the 3948-F0x or 3952-F0x Tape Expansion is installed on a raised floor, the raised floor should be stabilized to prevent a horizontal shift of the raised floor structure. The minimum overall floor load rating should be 398 kg/m2 (81.5 lb./ft.2) when frames are stacked side by side. However, IBM recommends an extra 12 inch clearance on both sides of the frame in addition to the door opening clearance on the front of the frame and on the rear of the frame. This will give a floor load rating needed of at least 291 kg/m2 (59.6 lb./ft.2). These ratings do not include additional loading by personnel and equipment traffic.
In addition, the floor must support point loads exerted by the leveling pads of up to 5.41 kg/cm2 (77 lb./in.2).
Floor – weight distribution and loading for the expansion frame
If the 3952 Tape Expansion Frame is installed on a raised floor, the raised floor should be stabilized to prevent a horizontal shift of the raised floor structure. The minimum overall floor load rating should be 478 kg/m2 (97.86 lb./ft.2) when frames are stacked side by side. However, IBM recommends an extra 12 inch clearance on both sides of the frame in addition to the door opening clearance on the front of the frame and on the rear of the frame. This will give a floor load rating needed of at least 340 kg/m2 (69.7 lb./ft.2). These ratings do not include additional loading by personnel and equipment traffic.
In addition, the floor must support point loads exerted by the leveling pads of up to 6.82 kg/cm2 (97 lb./in.2).
